Seaweed ID Class with Oregon Shores

This workshop will introduce you to the intertidal ecology and oceanography of the Oregon Coast, specifically how it pertains to seaweed. You'll learn how to identify various species of seaweeds. We will speak about how they can and have been used in culinary and healing treatments for centuries (though not foraging because we are out of season). We’ll chat seaweed anatomy, classification, and identification in a fun and interactive setting!

A portion of all sales will be going to Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition - a leading voice in protecting Oregon's unique coastline. Oregon Shores' vision is for a healthy and resilient Oregon coast where all people and nature thrive together. They work to achieve this by engaging, educating, and empowering people to protect and increase the resilience of the coast’s ecosystems, landscapes, and communities. Oregon Shores staff will join us on the beach to share more about their work, especially the upcoming focus on protecting seaweeds and eelgrass like the species we will learn about in this workshop. Donations from this class will help fund their ongoing work to raise awareness and take action in protecting our Oregon coast. To learn more about their work, visit www.oregonshores.org.

This class will be near Newport, Oregon
